La collection « Ateliers d'Artistes » a pour objet d'introduire le lecteur au coeur de la création de l'artiste : vivre le travail de celui qui invente des formes et des objets, en suivre la démarche, apprendre à lire son oeuvre représente la plus précieuse et la plus difficile des entreprises. En marge du monde de l'art, l'oeuvre de Serge Mansau est restée à l'abri des regards. Depuis plus de quarante ans, il est néanmoins l'un des grands créateurs de flacons de parfums. Sculpteur, dessinateur, scénographe, designer, il fait dialoguer les matériaux qui trouvent leur place dans son processus créatif constamment nourri de son parcours hors normes empreint de la liberté qui l'anime.
The collection « Ateliers d'Artistes » has as it's objective the introduction of the reader to the core of the artistic act. It proposes to enable the rigorous and exalting enterprise of living in the work of the one who invents forms and objects, of following the creative process and learning how to read an oeuvre with insight. Each of the books of this collection is an invitation to such an undertaking. Abundantly illustrated with photographs that reveal the atmosphere of a site, each book relies on conversations which restitute the painter or sculptor's thoughts.
In the margin of the art world, Serge Mansau's oeuvre has remained out of the public eye. Yet, for more than 40 years, he was a preeminent creator of perfume bottles. As a sculptor but also as a draftsman, scenographer and designer, he brings together into a dialogue the many materials that are the protagonists of his creative process-an endeavor so imbued with freedom that it could only have determined a most unconventional professional path.
