Furniture, costume and culinary arts in Reunion reveal much about the island's history, cultural interaction, economic and technical constraints and the relations between different social groups, genres and ages.
Furniture, costume and culinary arts belong to the arts of everyday life. In no way minor, despite their utilitarian role, these arts bring beauty to daily life. They express the determination of the men and women who peopled Reunion Island to go beyond the obligations of survival, yet still meet its needs by crafting elements of beauty and taste which were also comfortable, protective or nourishing.
Caning, weaving and simmering go hand in hand here with a mingling of cultures.
