The great architect, artist and designer Gio Ponti (1891-1979), inventor and promoter of 'Made in Italy,' was a key figure in the definition of Italian style. He succeeded first in orienting taste towards the emerging Art Deco through the ceramics he designed during the 1920s for the Società Ceramica Richard-Ginori, and then in creating his own unique and timeless stylistic signature.
Alongside the rich and varied production realised over the decades by this multifaceted figure, the volume focuses on the dense network of relations with artists, industrialists, and craftsmen. Moreover, thanks to the comparisons with other designers and ceramists active in those same years, it highlights the influence that Ponti's stylistic key had on the contemporary context.
Il grande architetto, artista e designer Gio Ponti (1891-1979), inventore e promotore del Made in Italy, è stato una figura chiave nella definizione dello stile italiano, capace dapprima di orientare il gusto verso il nascente Déco attraverso le ceramiche ideate nel corso degli anni venti per la Società Ceramica Richard-Ginori, e poi di creare una propria cifra stilistica unica e senza tempo. Accanto alla ricca ed eterogenea produzione realizzata nel corso dei decenni da questa poliedrica figura, il volume mette a fuoco la fitta rete di relazioni con artisti, industriali e artigiani e - grazie ai confronti proposti con designer e ceramisti attivi negli stessi anni - evidenzia le ricadute che il modello pontiano ha avuto sul contesto contemporaneo.
