Following the first edition in 2009, the CNCDH offers here an analysis of the recent observations and recommendations on the situation of human rights in France made by various international bodies active in the field of the promotion and protection of human rights.
This new report builds on the work of courts, independent experts, parliamentary and intergovernmental institutions, carried out within the framework of the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the European Union and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, as well as dialogues with the French Government. Developments are also devoted to international humanitarian law and international criminal law, focusing on the implementation and follow-up by France of the core instruments in this field.
The compiled observations, decisions and recommendations provide useful insights on several topics of critical importance : equality and non-discrimination, protection against torture and ill-treatment, the rights of persons deprived of liberty, asylum and non-refoulement, the administration of justice and penal policy, economic, social and cultural rights, respect for private and family life, freedom of conscience, religion and belief and freedom of expression and information. Together with the recommendations put forward by the CNCDH in its opinions, they also constitute a series of concrete roadmaps for proactive action by the Government, public authorities and other actors.
